From Agriculture to Aquaculture

Our roots

This brother sister duo’s passion for farming runs deep. Ian and Gretchen were born and raised on their fifth generational farm in the Great Plains of Kansas. Concern for the future of the farm arose as their water source, the Ogallala aquifer, was depleting. With their eyes on the horizon for future opportunities in agriculture, they were led to a clam farm in Cedar Key, Florida. Finding a sustainable farming practice, that produced a restorative product, was like striking gold for these Kansas kids. They left corn for clams as they jumped in with both feet, moving to the island and learning from the locals. Using ripe techniques and wisdom, they continue on the legacy of raising a habitually excellent product. Big Moon Sea Farm is a labor of the Stone family’s devotion to feeding the world, while contributing to the planet.
